Singer calls for deepfake legal action


By Newsroom | Playback singer Chinmayee has called for nationwide awareness about threats posed by deepfake videos, especially to women.


The singer's concern comes in the wake of a deepfake post of actor Rashmika Mandana in skimpy clothes, which sparked outrage among social media users.


Chinmayee pointed out, it was not just celebrities but women who borrowed money from loan apps are also being harassed with morphed videos.


The singer has called for legal action against the misuse of Artificial Intelligence or AI technology.


In her post on social media site X - she said "Deep Fake is going to be the next weapon they use to target and harass and blackmail girls to extort, blackmail, and rape. Their clueless families in one small village, or town, is not going to understand, when the honour is at stake.
