Trump wins US election, vows to end wars

Donald Trump will make a historic return to the White House as he wins the US presidential election beating his Democratic rival Kamala Harris.

In front of joyful throngs in Florida, the Republican declared, "America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate."

Trump is leading in Michigan, Nevada, and Arizona and has won North Carolina, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, among the seven pivotal swing states.

Dejected audiences left Kamala Harris' watch party well before the final results were announced.

Republicans also regained control of the Senate from the Democrats after winning a number of important seats.

Leaders around the world congratulated Trump on his victory. China said the US election was a domestic matter and welcomed the choice of the American people.

Russia stated that the US should fix its own democracy rather than blaming others for its shortcomings - a reference to US charges that Moscow meddled in its affairs.
