It was his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam's first rally, which drew sharp reactions from other seasoned political groups in the state.

In his speech, Vijay, fondly called Thalapathy or commander by his fans, criticized the state's governing DMK party  as well as the BJP of prime minister Narendra Modi.

Thousands of people gathered in Vikravandi, a town in the central part of the state where a massive replica of the State Secretariat - the seat of the regional government - marked the event.

Vijay indicated his party will be a major political force in the election in 2026 and signaled that the DMK was its many rival in the state.

Leaders from the DMK party said, the TVK's political ideology was a copy of theirs while its most prominent leader Udhayanidhi Stalin said he will only shares his thoughts after listening to Vijay's entire speech.
