Top Hamas leader Haniyeh killed in Tehran

|| By Santosh

Hamas has said its senior leader Ismail Haniyeh has been killed at his home in Iran's capital Tehran.

The group attributed the strike to Israel, but Israel has not yet responded, although it has vowed to wipe out the leadership of the Palestinian militant group.

Haniyeh died a few hours after Israel said it killed a top Hezbollah commander in a strike in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon.

There are now concerns of more regional conflict following the attacks on two prominent insurgent commanders supported by Iran on the same day.

Haniyeh, who was originally from Gaza but had spent many years living in Qatar, was in Tehran for the Iranian president's inauguration.

He was killed by a guided missile that was fired towards his Tehran home, according to sources from the Saudi publication Al Hadath.

According to the news source, the missile struck the structure at approximately 2:00 local time (23:30 BST).

According to Fars news, which is connected to Iran's revolutionary guard, Haniyeh was killed by "a projectile from the air" as he was stationed at a veterans' home in Tehran's north.
