An Army chopper carrying India's Chief of Defence Staff - a top post in the country's military has crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
There is no official word on the condition of Gen Bipin Rawat, news reports say at least five people, who were not identified, had died in the incident.
The chopper - MI-17 V5 - operated by the Indian air force went down in Coonoor in the Nilgiri hills. The area is home to many military installations.
News broadcaster NDTV reports: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has briefed Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is understood that Mr Singh will also brief Parliament, which is sitting for the winter session.
The chopper took off from an Army base in Sulur near Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore. It was heading to Wellington in Udhagamandalam, where a Defence Services Staff College is located.
