According to conservationists, 60 newborn Siamese crocodiles have been welcomed into Cambodia, setting a hatching record for the threatened species this century.
After more than 20 years of attempts to increase the reptile's population in the isolated Cardamom Mountains, the babies have been dubbed as "real sign of hope".
According to some estimates, the olive green freshwater reptile can reach a height of up to 3 meters, or about 10 feet, and has a noticeable bony crest at the back of its head.
Conservationists announced on Thursday that the baby crocs were born around the end of June, despite the fact that locals found five nests in May.
Siamese crocodiles were found across most of South East Asia and they are now considered "critically endangered" species by conservationists of decades of killing and habitat destruction.
Only 400 of these remain in the world, with the majority found in Cambodia.
More than 190 Siamaese crocs have been successfully released back into the wild since the program's launch in 2012.
